About Chris Mackovjak
Portland Multi-Family Real Estate Specialist
Chris Mackovjak specializes in Portland multifamily properties, including duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes. His focus is helping buyers and investors
navigate the unique challenges of small multifamily ownership in Portland,
from neighborhood selection to long-term investment strategy.
In addition to representing clients, Chris has personally owned duplex properties in Portland. This hands-on experience gives him insight into tenant dynamics, maintenance realities, and the financial performance of 2–4 unit properties beyond what can be learned from spreadsheets alone.
Clients work with Chris when they want informed guidance on owner-occupied multifamily purchases, rental property investments, and Portland-specific considerations such as zoning, rent regulations, and neighborhood trends.
My Story
I was born and raised in
Gustavus, Alaska
which is a small community near the entrance to Glacier Bay National Park. Fresh out of college, I wanted to see the world but needed a way to fund my wanderlust agenda. Opportunity came when I teamed up with my brother to become commercial salmon fishermen in Alaska.
I spent summers on my fishing boat and winters traveling.
I especially enjoyed escaping winter in one hemisphere to experience summer in the other! During my travels, I've visited 25 countries
As long as I can remember, I have had a passion for real estate
During the time between fishing and traveling, I lived here in Portland and invested money earned from fishing into Portland real estate. I became increasingly immersed in the Portland market and decided to pursue real estate full time.
Community Involvement
I believe in Portland and its people. I am proud to serve as director of the Pearl District Foot Patrol, a group of 45 volunteers who walk the Pearl weekly to clean up trash and advocate for neighborhood safety and livability. It’s a great group of people who have worked hard together and accomplished a lot of good. Take a look at the Pearl District Neighborhood Association website to learn more (and maybe join us for a walk!).
